What are the gold dots on a Monarch Chrysalis for?

Gold dots on Monarch Chrysalis

I have witnessed a lot of Monarch miracles recently, and every butterfly I have seen emerged or newly emerged has spent hours clinging to the gold line along the top of the chrysalis. They come out doing a little somersault,  and this little ridge is just within reach in those critical seconds, when the wrinkled wet butterfly that was smushed into that tiny tube has got to find something to cling to. If it falls to the ground with nowhere to get back up its still crumpled wings will quickly dry still folded up. And the beautiful butterfly will never fly. This ridge, and also the little circular ridges above it, are lifesavers.

*I still do not know what all the beautiful individual dots on certain parts of the front and back are for, but they are uniquely lovely.
